Peppermint essential oil is mentioned in ancient Greek mythology, when the nymph Mentha was transformed into a sweet-smelling herb by Pluto, who had fallen in love with her and wanted people to appreciate her for years to come. It has been documented back to nearly 1000 B.C. in Ancient Egypt, where it was found in the pyramids years later.
Peppermint essential oil has a fragrance that can be described as very grassy, camphor-like, fresh, cool, and sweet. It is steam distilled from the flowering herb, and thrives in the Mediterranean regions and in North America.
Today, Peppermint Essential oil is continually sought out for it’s many benefits, and is considered a must-have oil in any budding or experienced aromatherapist’s arsenal.
